Neighbors Do Perfect 180° Flip With Their Opinion About A Band After The Band Became Famous

February 8th, 2013 -San Diego

Neighbors completely changed their opinions after San Diego based psychedelic band JOY got famous. Neighbors used to call police on the band all the time when the band was practicing. “It was just so loud when the band was playing music and I couldn’t watch FOX news in a quiet room. I don’t give a damn about those crazy musician kids making music. I just wanted to watch TV in a quiet environment, and I know I am entitled to watch TV because I am so special and have a right to watch TV,” Jayson Major says in 2011. Now Mr. Major says, “I love those guys. Their music is great, reminds me of Jimi Hendrix.”

An expert say “This is a terrifying thing. This proves that human beings are so natural at changing their opinions based on someone’s fame or power. There is no consistency or ideology or thought process that makes their opinions. Their intelligence is so damned down by mainstream media throughout their lives, now they have no brains or capability to think on their own. They are not capable of understanding what they are seeing right in front of their eyes. “They instinctively know it is safe to agree with the majority,” she says.

Cultural psychologist Paul Mayson says, “American people who are raised in heavy individualistic culture are sometimes a pain in the ass because their opinions are so mediocre and lacking in thought but they feel compelled to scream their opinions to the world just to prove that they have a damn opinion.” When people think they are “extra special”, it makes it harder for them to realize that they are contradicting themselves. “Oh yeah, JOY shreds so hard. They are legit,” Mayson says.

JOY, originally started with Zack Oakley (guitar and vocal) , Trevor Mast (bass) and Taylor Charter (drums) finished their first album last year. Now the band has a new bassist, Justin Hulson, and a drummer, Paul Marrone. “This band will keep evolving no matter how much culturally ignorant and boring their neighbors are. They are unstoppable.” a culture writer from New York Times says. Oakley also plays in a band Shaking Pyramid with Mike Eginton, a bassist from Earthless, and Paul Marrone. Currently Paul Marrone is on European tour with Radio Moscow.

Local Venue The Void Smells Amazing The Morning After Nite Ritual’s Performance

January 29th, 2013 -Normal Heights, San Diego

Alex Kacha, the new owner of a live music venue The Void, formerly known as Bar Eleven, noticed the venue had an extremely refreshing and delightful scent the morning after Nite Ritual, a local electric music act, performed at the venue.

IMG_7443

Nite Ritual used props for the performance such as candles, a red wine glass, a board with symbols and sage burning that enhanced his layered dark electric sound. A local witch said the refreshing scent was from the sage that Nite Ritual burned before his performance. A vampire said he didn’t like it.

Other acts from last night were Polyphase (Brian Ellis), Professor Paradox and the Medicine Machine and Shamu Soul (Jamaal Clarke). This unique line-up brought a wide variety audience such as break dancers, elderly people, UCSD students, functional alcoholics, wizards, dog owners and musicians.

Lately San Diego musicians are taking the visual part of the show more into account. Cathedral X has done a variety of visual performances that involved dancers, artistic props, costumes and lights to the point that their shows were almost like experimental abstract conceptual theatrical pieces. Eagles Nest Productions have been providing live video projections to many musical acts. Operation Mindblow has been providing psychedelic visuals of flowing colors for deserving local bands such as JOY and Dahga Bloom.

Under the new ownership, the Void is starting fresh with a brand-new name and a great scent of sage. If you go to the Void tonight to see Primitive Noyes, Purple // Image (Alex Gray from Sun Araw), Mystery Cave, Asha, Bill Wesley, 100 LBS of Smoke, you will notice the freshness brought by Nite Ritual all around the venue. The show tonight (1/29/13) is FREE. The Void is located at 3519 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego.

A Boy Get Stolen From A Painting

January 19th, 2013 -San Diego

IMG_5073

Photo (a kidnapped boy, looking at raindrops through the window at his house)

A boy got stolen from a painting of San Diego based artist Shoko Hachiya. Kidnapping happened sometime between Dec 11th- Jan 8th while the painting with a boy (6 x 6 mixed medium) was displayed along with her other works at a local venue.

Police are investigating the case. However the investigation has been very difficult since the boy has no name, no personal records on any documents, in fact he is not an American. Since he is not a legal citizen, police suspects that he may be a terrorist or spy.

An expert says that people who steal art works are usually not the ones who enjoy art, but they understand that some people buy them. Sometimes they steal for mere excitement. Thieves usually have internal struggles such as boredom, apathy, obesity and low self-esteem. “Personally I think stealing art from museums is pretty bad-ass, but stealing art from local no-name artists is just lame. There are difference. Shoplifting from corporations that abuse modern-day slaves holds a sense of “taking something back.” But again, stealing things like local art doesn’t do any social justice,” he added.

Miss. Hachiya says, “Maybe he didn’t  even get stolen. He got bored looking at raindrops way too long so decided to leave or something. Next time I should try to animate him so he can move around in the frame at least.” But she plans to cast a spell of obesity and bad teeth at the thief if she ever finds out that someone actually did steal the boy. If the thief has a pre-existing condition of obesity and bad teeth, she’ll put the thief in front of the Shell’s front-line drilling team in Antarctica to prevent Shell from drilling and devastating the environment again. The boy really liked polar-bears and penguins, she says.

A good news is there is a witness of the boy. Ann Hemingway (29) says she saw the boy at a pond in San Diego State University. Apparently he was hanging out with turtles and fish at the pond. He also had a small boat and a binocular.

If you see the boy, please contact Eagles Nest Productions. The boy disappeared in the middle of producing their new short film starring the boy.

anticlimaxikovsky -short film

anticlimaxikovsky is my new short film that I shot in Manhattan and Brooklyn. It is a playful experimental film full of varieties of music such as noise music, garage rock, 8bit music and pop rock. I tried to emulate Hiroshi Teshigahara’s style a little bit so you might see that a tiny bit.

It’s been about a year since I started making videos. A video below, Sound of Rain, is one of the very first videos I made. This year is ending, and I’m looking forward to making new films.

“Head Space” art show/ film screening

Good evening people floating in the blog-sphere in the global village. I have news for you regarding the cultural event in San Diego region. Tin Can, one of my favorite music venues in San Diego, is hosting an art opening for my very first solo art show on Tuesday December 11th. On opening night, I am screening my new short film at 9:30 p.m. I spent so many hours on making this film so now my biological clock is so off-synched with the earth’s rotation and most of the responsible people. I hope that made this film good at least. The film is an experimental film (check out the trailer!) that I shot in NYC in October earlier this year. I am curious to see what people think about it.

And of course there will be art. The theme of the show is “Head Space.” You can read my interview with Magic Brotherhood here if you are interested  (http://www.magicbrotherhood.blogspot.com/2012/12/head-space-works-by-shoko-hachiya-tin.html)

And the night is also the first ever Trippy Tuesday Freakout Jam hosted by Magic Brotherhood. All Welcome! Doods Foods will be serving great foods till 10 p.m. My personal favorite from them is Grilled cheese with tomatos. They make it with sourdough bread and it’s crispy like early summer day in San Diego.

I am looking forward to hanging out with my friends, meeting new people, drinking and releasing all the stress that I built up preparing for this show on Tuesday 🙂

Hope to see you there!

Hour Long Psychedelic Music Video Project

Eagles Nest Productions have been working on a video covering the whole live set of San Diego local psychedelic band JOY. The band’s show was at Casbah on 8/31 along with Astra, Dahga Bloom, and Shiva Trash. Local record label Cave Punk released JOY’s first album that night, it was a great party. Every band that night was thoroughly enjoyable. Some were very intense. And Operation Mindblow killed it with their lighting show with exploding and flowing colors. They even had a projection of live fish swimming. Science! I think watching solid musicians play live set and get body and soul shaken by the sound is equivalent to eating infinite popcicle and drinking infinite beer by the great ocean in a hot perfect summer day naked with best friends. It’s a powerful and important experience for creative ever developing humans.

After working on the JOY footage for 2 months, the video is finally coming together. Here is a 2 minutes promo video for you to enjoy until it’s finalized.

Also, you can listen to some of the JOY’s album here.

Eagles Nest 2nd art/ music/ film show

The place I live is called “Eagles Nest” because it is on the 3rd floor with a good view. We can see the city lights of Tijuana in distance at night because we are (San Diego is) close to the border.

The reason why Eagles Nest started having a show was because I made a 2 hour long film as my final project against my professor’s will last year, so we did a screening party/ art show. Last December’s show was a success, many people came out to the show, so we decided to do the 2nd one. All the roommates cooperated to make the 2nd show happen on 8/17. We converted the house into the galleries and made the living room a screening room. And this time more artists, musicians and filmmakers participated.

We wanted the show to be informal and unpretentious, and didn’t want people to feel a weird lump like I do sometimes at art shows. And I hope the show was a good stimulant for local artists. Overall I personally had a very good time organizing and hanging out with many friends at the show, and hope everyone else enjoyed the show as well.

You can watch the video of the show.

List of the visual artists: Shoko Hachiya, Ayari Kanezashi, Sam Hears, Danica Molenaar, Robert Khasho, Jefry Coad, Josh Wessling, Jeremy Woodall, Jenni Simms, Kristy Hayden, Matthew Groves, Clay Kolts, Julie, Maria Cochina, M.R. Volpe

Live music performance was by The Napps and Tyler Daughn.

And films were Randall Christopher’s new animation, Maria Cochina’s music videos, Jeremiah Wessling’s Cheryl & Tammy, Clay Kolts’ music video and Shoko Hachiya’s The Bike Shop. After the screening, we showed Eagles Nest Productions’ local music showcase.

Also Eagles Nest residents cooked lots of food for the party. I wasn’t used to cook that much food so my head got really confused, forgot what I was doing while I was cutting daikon radish, and the room temperature rose, but it was worth the effort. And of course the head chef Fernando Astorga’s moves in the kitchen was eye-openingly beautiful.

The day after the show, I was drinking coffee and trying to read a book at a cafe, but I realized I was severely hangover because I couldn’t understand anything that I was reading. All the hosts spent the day hooked to IB.
